Description
This listing is for the fragrant hydrosol I distilled from the resin of Madagascar Elemi in April 2021.
And fragrant it is! I think the resin had time to age and mature giving the essential oil and hydrosol of this distillation a particularly rich and voluptuous aroma. The yield of essential oil from this distillation was considerably less than a distillation with the fresh resin, but wow, what a lovely trade-off!!
I only draw off a small amount of Hydrosol to avoid extended periods of storage and to always have only fresh hydrosol on hand. When this batch sells out, that’s it till I run another distillation of the material.
After the distillation of aromatic materials is performed, the essential oil is collected from the distillate and we are left with a richly fragrant distilled “water” which can be used as a refreshing body spray, a base for cremes, lotions, and many other aromatic/therapeutic products. This is called a Hydrosol or Hydrolat.
It has the lovely, deep, sweet, musky, fruity, lemony, amber aroma of aged Elemi. It lacks the sharp citrus notes of the fresh raw resin.
2 Ounce bottles are packaged in PET with spray caps. 16 and 32 Ounces are packaged in sturdy aluminum canisters with a regular double sealed and locking screw-on cap. Once opened, refrigerate any unused hydrosol since no preserving agents have been added.
If you would like to learn more about distilling essential oil and hydrosols or how to build your own still, you can find information and instructions on my blog-http://apothecarysgarden.com.
Madagascar Elemi is a rare type of Elemi found on the island of Madagascar off the coast of East Africa. It has a richer, more complex scent than the Philipines Elemi we find in mainstream aromatherapy and is used locally for incense and skincare.
Please note: There may be droplets of essential oil in the hydrosol. Make sure to keep it away from the eyes and mucous membranes.
For many applications, this product can be diluted with water while retaining its aromatic and therapeutic qualities.

This went into my fridge immediately upon arrival. I mist this powerfully uplifting elixir on my face and apply Dan’s Frankincense and Rose & Serum-G (day and night, respectively) afterwards. I then proceed with my regimen. I should have gotten the Elemi Rejuvenating Creme but that’ll be next! One of my favorite Hydrosols ever as I’m a collector. ❤️🩹 ✨ 💖 🌟

I love Elemi and this hydrosol is perfect for those times when I don’t want to burn the resin.
