The first thing that strikes one in this essential oil is Amber. Sensuous warm Amber. This Amber does not lead alone, but has a resonant full bodied musk dancing with it.
The spice and Citrus notes one expects from Boswellia Serrata are soft-spoken here. Nutmeg and Black pepper with Pettigrain of Lemon infusing in sweet, fine honey. Whispers of Anise and floral strands of Neroli tie it all together to make this scent almost gourmand and edible.
Frankincense or Boswellia Serrata is used in Perfumery, aromatherapy, incense making and many types of Traditional medicine, especially Ayurveda where it is known as Salai and Shallaki in Sanskrit. In Ayurveda, the whole oleoresin is used to treat arthritis, asthma, inflammations of the joints, gastrointestinal issues, mature skin, and much more. It is thought to aid in meditation, elevate the mood, heighten feelings of spirituality and wellbeing, and is used extensively in local rituals, ceremonies and on holy days.
Boswellia Serrata has been in the spotlight recently for its cancer-killing potential and Boswellic acid content. (Note that Boswellic acid will not be found in the essential oil of any Boswellia species, only in the whole oleo-gum-resin or a solvent extract.)
As all Frankincense types, B. Serrata is ruled Astrologically by the Sun and thus is warming, nourishing and expansive to the mind, heart and spirit. Frankincense Serrata is traditionally believed to increase mental clarity, spirituality and promote a positive attitude and courage in the face of fear.
