Description
Fresh Manzirufu-Seed pods of the Zanzibar Copal tree. Warts are filled with resin.
Seed pods of the East African Copal tree-Hymenea verrucosa.
The species name Verrucosa is rooted in the Latin name for Warts-“Verruca” and one can easily see why.
The blisters of resin on the surface of the seed pod do indeed resemble warts. Way more fragrant than warts, but wart-like nonetheless.
Manzirufu seeds are commonly used in traditional Madagascar Tromba ceremonies where ancestors are summoned and their wise counsel sought, usually through possession. The seed pods are also used as an incense for cleansing and protection.
One needs to crack open the pod and remove the inner seed which has an unpleasant aroma when burned.
The resinous shell can be broken up or powdered for use on a censer or in a compounded incense blend.
If you would like a purer form of Manzirufu resin, the shell can be crushed and macerated for a time in 95% alcohol. Once filtered it can be used as-is or one can evaporate the alcohol to create a pure solid or semi-solid resin absolute.
Manzirufu seed pods are sustainably harvested from the ground after they have fallen naturally from the tree.

Such an interesting substance…it has a smell that reminds me of an aroused human, very pheromonal.

As described, pictured, and promised. Obvious care is taken in packaging, customer service, and the selection and explanation of the product. Helpful, practical notes, links and illuminating stories and history in the descriptions. The respect and nurturing of the sources are reflected as the materials nurture and respect you.
