After repeated requests from customers, here is my "Dragon's Blood Ink" with Oud and Saffron. It is deep blood-red and permanent, so don't splash any on your clothes!
There are a few different types of Dragon's Blood resin. This ink is made with "Medieval" dragon's Blood resin, (Dracaena Cinnabari), which was used in Medieval Europe.
I felt this creation needed an aroma that suited its use, (since Dragon's Blood resin has no fragrance unless it is burned). I enhanced it with real Saffron, Rose Absolute and Oud essential oil to give it an aromatic weight that matched its colour and purpose.
You can make your own Dragon's Blood ink using the Dragons Blood resin listed in the shop-here-https://www.etsy.com/listing/569548431/dragons-blood-pure-resin-island-of
A good basic formula is 1 part Dragon's Blood powder to 10 parts Dragon's Blood powder. Some formulas call for the addition of Gum Arabic but I don't believe it is needed when using 95% alcohol which was not readily available in the distant past.
There are approximately 20 different trees around the world that supply a red resin called Dragons Blood. Some grow in Asia and others South America, but, it is thought that the Dragons Blood from the Dracaena cinnabari tree on the island of Socotra is the original resin traded for over a thousand years to the West along with Frankincense and Myrrh through the "Incense Route". For this reason, it is considered to be the material referred to in ancient Greek and Medieval texts, formularies and Pharmacopeia through the ages. This has lent this resin the nickname "Medieval" Dragons Blood.
