Black Frankincense Ameero-RARE!
Frankincense Ameero, (Boswellia ameero), is a tree that only grows on the island of Socotra, located between the coasts of Yemen and Somalia. Its resin is rarely found commercially since there is so little of it. It is mainly collected for use as incense by the local population of the island of Socotra.
This resin is even rarer because it is a black granular material, not the light-coloured tears that usually represent Frankincense Ameero when it is available online.

Two types of Frankincense from one tree?
In the same way we have Black and White Frankincense Neglecta, Frankincense Rivae and Kenyan Frankincense (Commiphora confusa), we have black and white Frankincense Ameero. Some tree types like Commiphora Confusa, (Kenyan Frankincense), yield 3 different resins!
Black Frankincense Ameero, like the other black Frankincense resins, is a natural exudate that the trees produce without tapping. This is of special importance in the case of Boswellia Ameero since Frankincense Ameero trees are listed as a vulnerable species on the IUCN Red List of endangered species. If we can collect the resin from the trees without damaging or disturbing them, then that is a win as far as I am concerned.
Much like its brother, Frankincense neglecta, the dark resin of Frankincense Ameero has a different aroma profile than the light-coloured tears from the same tree. Fresh, its unique fragrance could be compared to a blend of Frankincense Frereana and Black Frankincense Neglecta.
Because Black Frankincense Ameero is aggregated from many small drips, drops and pieces that appear naturally on the tree's bark, you will find bits of bark mixed in with your resin.

I've ordered a variety of Frankincense. I am tincturing some of the Ameero and also infused jojoba & apricot kernel mix. I made a salve with Yemen Myrrh, Labdanum Crete, Poplar Bud Aboslute, and the Ameero with Castor Oil and beeswax. The aroma is wonderful! The quality is evident. I named the salve Luna Ease Ortho Salve

One of, if not THE most earthy, dare I say almost animalistic frankincense scent profiles in all my collection. Smoky, dry-spiced, ancient, earthy-woody... It seems to completely lack the lemony brightness I'm usually expecting. I'll have fun pairing it, maybe with myrrh, opoponax... A very interesting discovery. Thank you!

You wouldn't know this is frankincense at first whiff. The olibanum heart is definitely there; but on top of that is a lovely dance of spiciness, hints of cinnamon and sandalwood and a subtle kind of dry sweetness. If you smell this while looking at pictures of the most exotic landscapes of Socrota it is a perfect match, a slice of aromatic heaven. I suspect that it has a fair amount of cinnamic alcohol, which to my nose is one of the most divine aromas out there, especially in its natural form.
But the really amazing thing is that this store is completely loaded with materials of this calibre, uniqueness and rarity. If you seek inspiration in aromatic arts or really in any endeavor you should buy freely from this store. Just stay away from this material because I want to hoard it all for myself! In all truth if you have any hesitation, you should just pull the trigger and buy this one while it's still around. I promise that you will treasure it!
