Smells of healthy horse manure, fertile, deep, earthy and hay-like, horse-like. If you love horses, you might love this. I instantly teleported back to my stable days, my purest and most innocent memories... it's beautiful and comforting and I can't wait to see how I will use it in a perfume.
Love it. Felt a difference in my skin after using it for 2 days. Recommend it 💯
Great product and fast shipping one of the best place to go for a real product with the quality need it, I will buy again soon!!
I absolutely love this resin. Beautiful musk and vanilla notes when burned
I highly recommend Apothecary's Garden! Excellent products, and excellent seller! AAAA+
Definitely 2 thumbs up!👍👍
Beautiful packaging, great service, and feeling very fortunate to have this to work with for making my own tinctures. If I remember to set up for video, will try to post some snippets of how it goes breaking down the castors. I pulled off a bit to toss into a little vial of a new perfume and it's great. It feels a little like beef jerky and smells fabulously smoky.
Tincturing the materials offered by Apothecary's Garden is one of the pleasures of makeing natural perfume, but if I needed a premade material it would be this. It is sweet and fruity as described, and though it lacks some of the deep, earthy (dirty) smoke and leather of cured material, it gives me an easy-to-work with option for lighter, brighter perfume blends.
I was dubious about adding this to my order for fresh supplies of civet, castoreum and hyraceum, but there is no doubt that muskrat is hands down my all time favorite of all animal musks!!! This year I'm researching each of the musks for my animalic collection. Muskrat's primary musk molecule is muscone, like in deer musk, and I find it much more beautiful than the deer musk. It sweetens up very quickly in 190 proof organic grain alcohol, and even a tiny film of straight paste on skin transforms within an hour from barnyard smell to dreamy sweet creamy intoxicating musk that lasts for hours. In a few quick trials it pairs very well with agarwood/oud, sandalwood, neroli and no doubt many other precious perfume ingredients, adding musk without as much leather or earthy notes as castoreum or hyraceum.
Some years ago I purchased civet here and tinctured it up in the orris root powder. For this new purchase I will be preparing the entire amount straight up in organic grain alcohol. At one week a pea sized bit is already showing all the finest aspects of civet, with its unmistakeable musk, including indole and a light phenolic note. It should be sublime in about 6 months!
I got a small piece and an even more very small piece. I didn't know what to expect because I've never even seen this stuff before but I have some understanding that the outer portion is most prized. The larger of the two had a very generous portion of outer edge. The smaller piece was so little that I did not expect it would have any outer edge but it thoughtfully and generously does! Thanks Dan!!! Got some soaking in PA now and can't wait to see how it turns out
Dan has perfected this product over 25 years. I have been using it for 10 years; for myself, my kids and our grandkids. It is effective and has always exceeded my expectations. I never want to start a cold and flu season without this in my arsenal. Shipping is fast and the customer service is unbeatable.
This ambergris, to me, has more of a clean skin scent than white ambergris. It’s less marine but more musky. I like mixing it with civet which makes it a nice neutral base fixative. I like that I can mix top or middle notes with a fixative like this and they for hours instead of minutes.
I’m relatively new to using civet but this is fairly concentrated. When I wear it on it’s own it has a sort of indolic, fecal note with a scent of corn tortillas. Not my favorite on its own but it does make other materials shine. Mixed with other animal materials like ambergris, musk and castoreum it makes a wonderful base.
When I opened the bottle I got hit with cinnamon scented gasoline! It is very well described as being like styrax but without the cloying styrene note which is exactly why I bought it. It starts with a mix of spicy amber but oscillates between fruity notes but has a sweet fuel note that reminds me of palo santo (except not like kerosene). It’s elusive in that when you apply it the scent comes and goes but lasts quite a while. Very versatile material that blends well with almost anything I’ve tried.
Honestly I have never had poplar bud so it was not quite what I was expecting but it’s very nice. It does have the wet leaves and night air quality I thought it would but then it has a sort of dead leaves note in the dry down that is useful to me. I do detect some vanilla notes in the dry down as well,
One of my all time favorite materials. I bought the resin here before but didn’t know how to use it which is why I’m glad the oil is available. It’s different from most frankincense but it does have the same woody, resinous base. But it has a beautiful fruity, sweet, soapy, crunchy candy top note that cuts through almost anything you mix with it. It’s a material that refuses to be in the background- she’s a lead vocalist not a backup singer. (And sorry the US President is a degenerate lunatic but I didn’t vote for him).
Absolutely lovely, very rich waxy product with a stunning scent
What a great beverage is frankincense tea. Tastes great in an exotic way, very easy to make, quite cheap, and lots of health benefits. What's not to like?
I am never disappointed when receiving my orders. Dan is incredibly personable and goes above and beyond expectations. I love the scent of my resin and have made beautiful batches of balms. Thank you :)
I use this Serum every night before bed. I mix it with my regular moisturizer to get a beautiful, deep and hydrating experience for my skin. It is part of my skin routine that I truly enjoy each day.
Finally a safe balm that relieves sore muscles and achy joints. I love it!!
