Frankincense Serrata Resin Extract-Boswellic acids

I dry, powder and sift Frankincense Serrata Resin Extract twice after I distill the essential oil. Devoid of water-soluble gum, it dissolves easily in warm carrier oils, waxes and alcohol.

The resin extract adds a lovely fragrance to cremes, salves and medicated oil and is a great, clean-burning incense material in incense blends.

Most Frankincense types will not blend homogeneously with oils and waxes in their natural form since they contain water-soluble gum.
However, since all water-soluble gum has been removed during the distillation process, the resin extract dissolves quickly in warm vegetable oils and waxes, making a perfect base for preparing Frankincense medicated oils, salves and cremes.

Frankincense Serrata Resin extract is a pure resin composed mainly of pentacyclic and tetracyclic triterpenes, including the alpha and beta Boswellic acids.
The resin extract carries the delightful aroma of the fresh resin.

Also called Indian Olibanum and Salai in India,  Frankincense Serrata is favoured by Ayurveda and Traditional Chinese Medicine systems.

Growing from India up through Punjab and into Pakistan, Frankincense Serrata is also used extensively as an incense and incense ingredient in local rituals and ceremonies.

In medicated oils, it can be blended at a 1:3 to 1:5 ratio which yields approximately 3-5 ounces of medicated oil from a one-ounce package.

It has a beautiful texture in salves and cremes, feels lovely on the skin, and has the fragrance profile of fresh resin. (Though less intense).

This pure resin can be used in moustache waxes and beard balms to add firmness, tenacity (fragrance), and the effects of a day-long perm.
