Weeping Cypress Powder-Sustainable

Chinese Weeping Cypress-Cupressus funebris. Vietnam. Sustainably sourced.

Chinese weeping Cypress is a fresh-ground aromatic powder with lovely notes of precious wood and Camphor. When burned, it emits a sensuous, soft, old-wood aroma with beautiful camphoraceous notes. I find the scent very soothing, grounding and uplifting. It clears, calms and sharpens my mind.

This species grows in Vietnam and Southern China, where it is a valuable, traditional incense used to cleanse spaces, summon and communicate with ancestors and spirits at graves, temples and in the home.

Cypress-Death and the Afterlife

It is interesting to note that Cupressus Funebris is not only called Chinese weeping Cypress but also Mourning Cypress and Funerary Cypress, which is indicated by its Latin name Funebris, which means "Of funerals" or funereal. Weeping does not refer to its physical form like our Weeping Willows, but to its traditional use which is associated with death and mourning.

Cypress trees are historically and universally associated with death and the afterlife. Even today, they are planted in both Jewish and Muslim cemeteries.

The populations of this tree in China and Vietnam are dwindling at an alarming rate from overharvesting and loss of natural habitat.

My supplier tells me that this material is sourced from driftwood, which means it is relatively sustainable and does not burden the already stressed species.

Menthol, camphor, spicy mint.. never smelled wood like this

I've always been obsessed with obscure scents from my childhood, especially camphoraceous kinds. I love that refreshing, almost pungent scent of different forms of camphor. This cypress is a whole other level.. i have never, ever smelled anything like it. It is beautiful. I was almost scared at first about how usable it was, but I harvested some minty spicy Norway spruce and rolled a tiny stick and it BURNS SO WELL YALL.

I added it to my palo santo+copal+juniper blend too and it just completed it! Smelled like a complex, traditional recipe handed down from my grandma than something I whipped up in my kitchen.

Going to do a spicy minty refreshing incense blend with some eucalyptus, rosemary, hyssop, .. very excited!!!!

Beautiful earthy shavings

Burns like magic, it is nothing like cedarwood. It is so comfortable, almost like the Patchouli version of Woods. There a bit of Archaism in its scent. Takes me to a different time when there wasn't so much going on. A form of longing almost..

Smells incredible.

Smells great. Even without placing it on a coal or burning it is very fragrant. Has an earthy, woodsy scent that is sweet with cinnamon-like notes. At least to my nose. A new favorite. Thank you for your hard work and dedication in finding, procuring and providing such excellent materials.

Wonderful!

This wood carries a unique yet very familiar fragrance, I can wait to use it in my incense! I just adore it. Like an old Chinese chest, cedar, camphor and something special.
