Omumbiri Resin

Omumbiri resin, collected from, the Commiphora Wildii tree in Namibia, has a lovely sweet, spicy, warm fragrance, reminding one of Frankincense rather than Myrrh though it belongs to the Myrrh family.

Unlike other scented Myrrhs, Omumbiri resin is not found in the form of tears but as a "Thurimel", a honey Frankincense most often in a microcrystalline form similar to Frankincense Thurimel resins.

Omumbiri is also different from all other Myrrh types in that it is a pure oleoresin and contains no water-soluble gum. Not only does this lack of gum give it a unique appearance, but unlike most Frankincense and Myrrh species, it burns on the charcoal with no charring and yields a pleasing smooth perfume to the air.

The lack of water-soluble gum also means it will dissolve easily into warm carrier oils for those that wish to make cosmetics or solid perfumes.

Known for their striking beauty and unique hairstyles, the women of the Himba tribe in Namibia collect Omumbiri resin and blend it with Ochre and animal fats for a traditional perfume and cosmetic. Stored in cow-horn containers this fragrant unguent is applied to both skin and hair regularly.

Omumbiri resin is collected from the trees and ground without tapping or damaging the trees in any way, making it perfectly sustainable. It is processed at a community co-op facility that pays the women on the spot for their resins. Profits from the sale of the essential oil go right back into the community. Omumbiri resin is both sustainably harvested and fairly traded.

Like other types of Myrrh, Commiphora Wildii is ruled Astrologically by the Moon.

Always great quality omumbiri

The one negative review here is just ridiculous. You know exactly how much weight you’re getting when you buy it, so to complain when receiving exactly as much as one bought shows some type of ignorance. An ounce weighs an ounce, two ounces weighs two ounces… and Dan always overweighs, consistently.

You cannot beat the quality nor the service. I’m in the states, and bought an absolute from two states over a week before I purchased this from Dan. This, coming from Canada, was here within days. I’m still waiting on my purchase from a couple of states over… sigh.

The only negative thing I can say about Apothecary’s Garden is that I’m spoiled by the quick shipping and the weight and the quality. I expect it from everybody now.

Also thank you for the free sample of White C Confusa! I haven’t burned it yet but when I do I’ll leave a review. Love this shop so much!

Like the one I just reviewed below (Bushman's Candle bark) this is an awesome, beautiful scent. I had a Himba friend and if I could post her picture that would be the best description of this scent, just gorgeous!

This is my second order with this store and I will continue to order from them. The quality, packaging and shipping is amazing. I'm so happy I found this little gem! Everything matches the description and exceeded my expectations.

I haven't used this specific incense yet because of how beautiful it smells and I love the tradition and story behind it. I will save this one for “special events”.

This is such a beautiful resin, through and through. The sweet, perfumed scent is such a classic that it invokes memories of past lives, touching something deep within that I feel to be true but cannot quite recall. This is my second purchase of omumburi from Apothecary's Garden, and I will never not buy this again, and only from Dan, the moment I'm about to run out. I love this on charcoal and it's especially lovely to enjoy on the electric burner (also from Dan). The nuance I experience with the slow burn is indescribably. It is like an explosion of olfactory pleasure, and both experiences bring something different to the table. It's impossible to experience this kind of quality and shop somewhere else.
