Siberian Deer Musk Tincture 5 & 10%

There is much controversy around the collection and use of Deer musk. This is due to the lack of sustainable methods for collecting it and to the fact that most deer are killed for their precious musk. For these reasons, I will not sell it publicly in the shop. If you are here it is because I have personally invited you to view this collection.

Deer Musk is, and always has been, a commodity of great magic, mystery, rarity and cost. One finds references across cultures to deer musk that date back thousands of years, and it is mentioned in writings on traditional medicine, perfume, magic, and the occult.

Deer musk is ruled by the planet Mars in traditional and Ayurvedic Astrology; it is portrayed in all accounts as a potent aphrodisiac and stimulant that sparks our imagination and our desire to seek it out.

I have spent the better part of the past 20 years searching for truly authentic and unadulterated aromatics and have invested many thousands of Dollars in fakes, adulterations, and low-quality materials, eventually teaching myself to discern high-quality materials while forging lasting relationships with honest, reliable suppliers I can trust. These are the materials that I share here in my little shop with other sincere seekers.

I prepared this tincture myself according to Astrological rulerships and tenets of Herbal Alchemy; it has aged for 3 years now.

I make the 5% tincture by diluting the 10% tincture in filtered 95% food-grade ethanol. The 5% tincture has a more pleasant, richer aroma than the 10% tincture. I find it has a nicer aroma when used neat on the skin. Of course, you can prepare your own 5% tincture from the 10% in the same manner.

Deer Musk has been used as medicine, in food and beverages, and as a key ingredient in the creation of perfume and incense for thousands of years.

Like other natural animalic fragrance compounds, the magic and power of Deer Musk lie not in the physical olfactory strength of its aroma but in its effect on perfume blends.

It does not transform a perfume by simply adding its fragrance strength to a blend. Instead, it operates in a less obvious, covert manner, as if anchored in the interstices of aroma, rounding out or pulling together a bouquet from beneath or within. It is an excellent fixative and adds depth, tenacity, and extra dimension to compositions through a mechanism that is not well understood. It is often described as an exultant.

Deer Musk tincture is most often used in a perfume at a very low 1% to 3%. Only a small amount is needed to transform a perfume.
