Madagascar Elemi Resin extract

Madagascar Elemi resin Extract is the very aromatic pure resin of Madagascar Elemi after hydro-distilling its essential oils. It is still intensely fragrant and perfect as an ingredient in solid perfumes, salves, cremes, cosmetics, incense blends and moustache wax recipes.

Frequently asked questions

Some questions and answers are automatically generated.

What does the scent profile smell like?
Reviewers consistently describe it as intensely fragrant and beautiful. Several customers note floral woody notes with a strong base, and one mentions it smells almost like the whole resin. Many use it for incense, describing billowing smoke with delightful, uplifting smells.
Can I use this directly as incense?
Yes. According to the product description, it burns cleanly with no charred odour and is perfect for incense since there is no water-soluble gum content. Reviewers confirm it makes an excellent fragrant incense powder.
Is this truly in powder form?
The product is ground into a fine powder, though one customer noted it arrives as a somewhat sticky mass rather than a dry powder—less sticky than fresh resin, but not completely dry. It dissolves readily in warm carrier oils.
How do I infuse this into oils?
The product dissolves readily in warm carrier oils in a water bath. The description recommends a ratio of 1 part resin to 10 parts carrier oil to create a lovely aromatic oil. Several reviewers have successfully made infusions with jojoba oil and olive oil.
Will there be sludge after straining an oil infusion?
One customer reported more sludge remaining after straining than expected, though they found the final product worth it. This appears to be an occasional occurrence rather than a consistent issue.
Is this suitable for facial skincare products?
Yes. Multiple reviewers use it in facial oils, serums, and cremes, and the description states it has traditional anti-ageing and skin toning properties. When infused in carrier oils, it leaves skin feeling soft and supple.
How does this compare to the essential oil?
Reviewers note it has more base notes and stronger fragrance character than the essential oil alone, and the description states it delivers traditional properties much more so than the essential oil. Little is needed since it remains intensely fragrant.
Can I use this in moustache or beard wax?
Yes, according to the product description. It performs the same as fresh oleoresin, giving great hold and shaping power while lending a distinguished Elemi fragrance.
It is a finely ground powder and dissolves readily in warm carrier oils in the water bath.

After distillation of the essential oil of Madagascar Elemi, (which you will find in the shop, the spent resin or Madagascar Elemi Resin Extract is ground, sifted and dried twice before it is ready for use.

It is perfect as an incense since there is no water-soluble gum content, it burns cleanly with no charred odour and can be used as a premium ingredient in loose or formed incense.

Madagascar Elemi resin Extract has the intense heart of fresh Elemi resin. Though we often assume all the scent in our aromatic plants is found exclusively in their essential oils, resins have taught me that they, too have their own aromatic life and often double as fixatives, anchoring other fragrances.

I have found that most tree resins have an affinity for our skin. This could be attributed to the resin's function of healing the skin of the tree, but regardless of the reason, resins mixed with a carrier oil leave the skin feeling soft, supple, smooth and just happy.

Since it is still intensely fragrant, little is needed to make salves or cremes for skin care. A ratio of 1 part resin to 10 parts carrier oil creates a lovely aromatic and skin loving oil which can also be used as the oil phase of oil/water cremes.

A Moustache or beard wax performs the same as fresh oleoresin, giving great hold and shaping power while "perming" facial hair to the desired shape and lending a distinguished Elemi fragrance.

In rejuvenative cremes, Madagascar Elemi resin Extract delivers the traditional anti-ageing and skin toning properties associated with Elemi. Much more so than the essential oil alone.

Heavenly Aroma

I ordered a small amount of this and made elemi infused jojoba - and it's lovely! I used it as a base of a facial elixir - now I've got a much larger amount. There is more sludge remaining after straining the oil than I was expecting, but the final product was worth it.
