Frankincense Elongata resin is not often seen online and for the most part, is collected and used as incense by the local population of the island of Socotra.
The name awarded this tree is due to the long, (elongated), and slender leaves it bears that distinguish it from all other species of Frankincense. In a way, this seems apt since the body of the Boswellia elongate tree is much more "robust" than its brothers.
The resin of Boswellia elongata is a natural exudate. This means the tree is not tapped or damaged in any way to collect the resin.
An unusual fact about Frankincense Elongata is that, unlike all other Frankincense species, it prefers to grow in soil and not on or in stone. It is found growing mainly on plains and valleys.
Like Frankincense Frereana, B. elongate resin is a pure oleoresin with little to no water-soluble gum.
This means it will melt on the charcoal with no charring odour and it dissolves very easily in alcohol or warm oils when preparing a solid perfume or medicated oil. One can safely assume it delivers the same anti-inflammatory effects as the rest of the Frankincense family.
This shipment is composed of very small tears and was obviously painstakingly collected. I have only a small quantity of this resin and do not know if I will get more. Get it while you can.
Ruled astrologically by the Sun, all types of Frankincense are anti-inflammatory, calming to the mind and spirit and aid in meditation and spiritual work.
Frankincense has been a valuable commodity and a very important part of our global cultures, religions and trade for thousands of years, highly valued for its medicinal, spiritual and aromatic uses, it is only recently that the different types of Frankincense have been examined closely and their unique chemical compositions studied.
