Red Mexican Copal-Torote

Called Torote locally, Red Mexican Copal is a traditional incense resin used for grounding, cleansing, purifying and raising the energy of both people and spaces.

Red Mexican Copal resin is a unique and recent find for me. It is collected sustainably from the Bursera microphylla trees by traditional collectors in the Sonoran Desert of Northwestern Mexico.

This deset-loving tree also has a presence in the Southwestern USA, and many are familiar with its English name of "Elephant tree". Also known as "Little leaf" Elephant Tree. (Microphylla means small-leaved in Latin).

The aroma of this resin before burning is earthy, fruity, herbal and spicy. Very unusual!!

When burnt on the coal, one is met with soft, fruity notes that transition into the warmth of Cedar, soil, and smoky spices. I find the smoke very calming and grounding. Unlike many aromatic resins from this incense resin family, there is a complete absence of Pine and citrus notes.

There are over 80 species of Bursera trees in Mexico, and many of them yield a fragrant resin. I regularly discover new traditional Copal resins from Mexico and I am always learning new things. I hope you are, too.

All the Bursera trees are members of the Burseraceae family of trees. They are also called the "Torchwood"  and the "Incense tree" family. They belong to the same botanical family as Frankincense, Myrrh, Elemi and many other fragrant resin-bearing trees used for incense, medicine and perfume.

Get this unique offering while it in stock! I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.
